The original back-stamp was this one, and it was in use from 1962-1974
This mark was used when all Old Country Roses were made in the UK, from 1974 until 1980.
In 1993, Royal Doulton separated again from the Pearson group and re-registered the copyright to Old Country Roses, so the C became an R for Registered.
Although the bottom line still says the date 1962 when Old Country Roses began, this mark means it was made after 2002 because 1998-2002 had some transitional pieces. From December 2002, all UK production of 'Royal Albert' ware had ceased and moved to Asia.
Note the mark has dropped any mention of England.
In 1972 Royal Albert Ltd became a subsidiary of Royal Doulton Tableware Ltd following the amalgamation of the Royal Doulton and Allied English Potteries Ltd businesses.
2005 Waterford Wedgwood completed a takeover of Royal Doulton, and the Royal Albert brand was continued at Wedgwood factories overseas.
WWRD Holdings Limited is a company that KPS Capital Partners created in 2009 out of the remains of Irish firm Waterford Wedgwood plc.
In May 2015, Fiskars, a Finnish maker of home products, agreed to buy 100% of the holdings of WWRD, which was completed on 2 July 2015, including the brands Waterford, Wedgwood, Royal Doulton, Royal Albert, and Rogaška.
Bone china consists of bone ash and white clay. The more bone ash is used in china, the lighter it will be. English-made Royal Albert is lighter than the Indonesia-made due to higher bone ash content, a minimum of 30% to 35% compared to Indonesian-made 20% to 25%, which is below industry standards, the result of slightly heavier in weight
Bone ash gives the ceramic piece its milky white color. Bone ash also adds a luminous sheen to the body of the particular tableware piece. For instance, when you shine a bright light on bone china, you will find that more light travels through than fine china or lower-quality Indonesian-made Royal-Albert, which is slightly more opaque.
There are three main categories
Fine Bone China has the highest bone ash content, generally 45% to 50%.
Remember, higher bone ash means lighter weight and higher gloss and more light transparent
